Message from Honorary Director
At the Tennoji Zoo, gGuide machinesh are installed in front of each animal exhibition, with which visitors can listen to an explanation about the animal by inserting 30 yen into the machine. As these machines are quite outdated, however, we have been thinking about how best to improve our customer service by providing the latest information about the zoo, along with visual images, in a more user-friendly way.
NANNO & COMPANY came up with a proposal to implement a portable terminal (handheld device) as a zoo guide in which visuals of animals at our zoo and an explanation could be downloaded. The company also suggested that in addition to Japanese, we make the explanations available in English, Chinese and Korean so that our visitors from overseas could enjoy the zoo guide in foreign languages.
The proposal did sound quite attractive, but we did not have the budget for it. NANNO & COMPANY was then referred by Apple Store, Shinsaibashi, to a student group at the Osaka University of Arts called gThe 10%h, which offered to produce the videos of our zoo on a volunteer basis.
Thanks to them, we are now able to post two outstanding works on the Web as video podcasts. We sincerely hope that you will visit our zoo whenever you are in Osaka and enjoy the gAfrican Savanna Zoneh and gAsian Tropical Rainforest Zoneh after downloading the video podcasts into your iPod or other portable device.
I would like to express my appreciation to the student members of gThe 10%h, Apple Store Shinsaibashi and NANNO & COMPANY, all of whom have cooperated with and supported this project.
